FOUR-YEAR OLD KINDERGARTEN

We have two four-year old groups:

• Turtle Group: attend kindergarten Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

• Platypus Group: attend kindergarten Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

All four-year old children receive 15 core hours of kindergarten programming each week. Children also receive an additional three hours per week of extended hours Letterland Program on Wednesdays.

FOUR-YEAR OLD SESSION PROGRAMS 

Music and Movement Program  
Monday (Turtles) and Tuesday (Platypus)

Miss Julie takes the children on a musical journey and explores the different ways they can move their bodies and use their voices. Musical instruments and storybooks are introduced, adding to your child’s musical experience.

Wellbeing Wednesday
Wednesday Turtles and Platypus

Each Wednesday the children participate in a half-day session focussing on the children’s Wellbeing. We investigate our wellbeing using the Smiling Minds Program and the Kindness Curriculum Mindfulness.

The purpose of teaching mindfulness to our children is to give them skills to develop their awareness of their inner and outer experiences. It helps them to understand how emotions manifest in their bodies and to provide tools for control. The Kindness Curriculum presents activities designed to build the attributes of empathy, gratitude, perspective, honesty, self-compassion, self-acceptance, humility, collaboration, mindfulness, meditation, trust, affiliation and humour.

THREE-YEAR OLD KINDERGARTEN

We have two three-year old groups:

• Penguin Group: attend kindergarten Monday and Thursday.

• Dolphin Group: attend kindergarten Tuesday and Friday.

All three year old children receive 12 core hours of kindergarten programming each week. 

Teachers will monitor each child and they will contact you if they feel your child is not ready for or not coping with the afternoon sessions. They may also discuss an alternative date for your child to start afternoon sessions.

Cooking
Thursday (Penguins) and Friday (Dolphins)

• Teacher: Mel Rossier and Beena Kute

This program combines cooking and learning about food, health and nutrition into one program. Teachers will either choose a recipe to cook with the children, or share an activity that helps children learn about health and nutrition. Games and songs will also be introduced in this program.
